When Molly is not working on making your dream home into a reality she is happily working on her own dream home, along with her husband Bryan and Forbes, their wonder dog.
For Molly Scott, design runs in her blood. Molly's parents and grandparents were both creators and entrepreneurs, so it was only fitting that she would become an interior decorator and establish her own business, Molly Interiors..

Clients come to Molly because they know she is the designer that can help heighten and enhance the visual aesthetics and functionality of their home.
Q: What were you like as a child?
A: I come from a very artistic family. My parents are artists and I grew up with an art and design studio in our house so, naturally I was a creative and artsey kid. I was obsessed with Barbie and Crayola Crayons. My first Interior Design project was Barbie's high-rise. My mom and I spent hours turning a bookcase in my bedroom into an elaborate, four story high-rise with silk curtains and pillows, a balcony with a park view; And the kitchen had a bar!
Q: Did you always want to be an Designer?
A: Pretty much. After wanting to be a Super Hero and not being able to master the art of flying, I wanted to have a career were I could express my creative side. I have always been obsessed with color and my dream job is to be a Color Czar. I want to have a job creating names for colors; And I want to design for Target.
Q: Where did you go to school and what did you study?
A: I graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.A. in creative writing and my minor in art history. I really got into writing during my senior year of high school and thought that I could be a literary Andy Warhol. That didn't work out. I also spent a summer semester studying fine arts and art history at the University of London. That's when I fell in love with art, design, and architecture.
Q: What do you like best about being a Designer?
A: I like helping people turn their ideas into reality. I think a home is an expression of who you are as an individual and I help people express themselves.
Q: How long have you been an Interior Decorator?
A: I apprenticed for eight years doing interior decorating and started my design business in 2004.
Q: What makes you stand out as a Designer?
A: I'm younger than a lot of the designer here in Austin and I like to think that I offer ideas that are fresh and new. I'm also willing to take on any size project, any budget, all types of clients in any neighborhood and any house, apartment, condo.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am a Texas native. I grew up in Houston and my family moved to Austin when I was about ten. I have been living in Austin almost twenty years and love it. I think Austin is a great city and a wonderful place to live and work. I've been all over the world and I still love calling Austin my home.
Q: What in the Art/Design world has inspired you the most?
A: Right now I'm really into mixed media art, I love collage art and fine art with a lot of dimension to it. Max Ernst is a collage artist that I love. His work is very avant-garde. I also like John Derian, he's a New york designer who makes fabulous decoupage home goods. I have one of his decoupage porcelain trays and it's one of my most prized pieces. Vincent Van Gough has always been a big inspiration to me. Especially his Japonaiserie period. His use of color is so vivid and the way he manipulated the oil on canvas, so talented; His work is much more impressive when you see it hanging in the museum. When it comes to design, I think I'm most influenced by what came out of the Bauhaus movement, form and function is a rule I live by but I can also appreciate classic and timeless pieces I particularly like the Neoclassical era.
Q: What would you say is your personal style?
A: My styles is a bit eclectic and changes frequently like a chameleon changes colors. I like to mix classic, timeless pieces with modern elements. I'm not afraid of color. Also, I'm very girlie and like girlie things but I live with my husband, so I try to keep it low key. I love the challenge of combining his masculine style with my feminine tastes, I think we compliment each other very well! And, I do have a hot pink office though.
Q: What are some of your other interests?
A: I'm really into all aspects of Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, the history of Design. My profession as a residential designer has grown into other interests in real estate. I started doing a lot more remodeling projects and after acquiring a rental property, I have developed a growing interest in investment property and flipping homes. Im a painter and artist. I love to travel and have been lucky to be able to do so. My husband and his family have introduced me to gourmet cooking, plus I have a vegetable garden and enjoy writing, pilates, being on the water and I'm learning how to sail.
Q: Is there anything you don't like to use in decorating?
A: I'm not a fan of wallpaper borders and I don't like fake plastic plants unless they look unbelievably like the real thing and they're kept dusted.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add to the interview that we haven't covered?
A: I was truly born with design in my blood and a great eye for style. I'm actually a third generation designer. My grandparents were designers as well. I have a deep passion for all areas of design and like to think of myself as a design advocate.
I think my background gives me a unique approach to interior design. I believe that for a healthy, happy, comfortable home, good organization is a must and objects should be functional as well as aesthetically appealing.
From studying the philosophy and history of Feng Shui, I try to incorporate those design principles in my designs. My specialties are residential design, organization and space planning, accessorizing, home furnishings, Feng Shui interpretations and preparations for selling a home.
I work with clients to help heighten and enhance the visual aesthetics and functionality of their homes. I recognize that every house is different and everyone has their own individual personality. I like to bring out the best in people by giving them an interior that reflects their unique style, as well as something that will inspire them. It's important to me that my clients come home to a dream.
